Managing Apache logs

Defaults

By default there is one configuration file that sets how long and how often logs are saved. To access the file type :

 sudo nano /etc/logrotate.d/apache2

You should see something like this :

/var/log/apache2/*.log {
         daily
         missingok
         rotate 14
         compress
         delaycompress
         notifempty
         create 640 root adm
         sharedscripts
         postrotate
                 if invoke-rc.d apache2 status > /dev/null 2>&1; then \
                     invoke-rc.d apache2 reload > /dev/null 2>&1; \
                 fi;
         endscript
         prerotate
                 if [ -d /etc/logrotate.d/httpd-prerotate ]; then \
                         run-parts /etc/logrotate.d/httpd-prerotate; \
                 fi; \
         endscript
 }
